AsiaToday reporter Yoon Bok-eum = KT affiliates are considering to collaborate with Samsung Electronics to develop KT's future food business, drawing much attention. It seems their strategies come from expected synergy achieved in communication and network areas through the collaboration with Samsung Electronics.
On February 2, an official of KT affiliate said, "There was a guideline for every business department last month requesting to develop a plan that enables synergy with Samsung Electronics. Currently, technical support team is establishing the related business plan."
Last month, KT chairman Hwang Chang-gyu ordered his employees at executive director level to find KT's new business when he gave them out a book titled, "Are you a strategist" as a present. As a result, all the executives are preparing business reports and some affiliates are even considering collaboration project with Samsung Electronics.
The industry sees that chairman Hwang's work experience in Samsung Electronics will cement the relationship between KT and Samsung Electronics. Back in January 2014, KT and Samsung Electronics launched a joint project for the first time to commercialize LTE evolved multimedia broadcast and multicast service (LTE eMBMS). The two companies plan to strengthen their collaboration for the commercialization of the corresponding technology in the global market.
An industry insider stated, "Chairman Hwang has internally requested to develop KT's new business. It seems he's considering to collaborate with Samsung Electronics for new business."
An official of KT said, "It's true there has been a request to develop new business. But there wasn't any information about collaboration with Samsung Electronics."
